Chinese Willow art

Drawing the Chinese Willow art was really fun. We had to make sure that we drew every detail that was in the story. The story was about a girl that was called Koong Shee and she was in love with a boy called Chang. Chang was a poor person that had no money, but Koong Shee was a rich wealthy girl. Her father wanted her to marry a rich person, but she refused to marry the wealthy boy that he had chosen for her. She said she didn't wan to marry this person and so her father was very angry. He put her in a small cell near his house. He said that when the blossoms on the cherry tree would bloom Koong Shee would marry this boy. one day a messangar came on a boat with a letter for Koong Shee from Chang. the letter said that chang and Koong Shee should escape to a house and live together. she wrote a letter back saying that she would only escape if Chang would pick her up, so he did. While they were escaping they didn't know that all that time Koong Shee's father had been wathcing them all that time. He quickly got a whip and he hadkilled them with it. Now the Koong Shee and chang have become doves. there re lots of different stories though. In one of them they do escape and live together. Now that our pictures are  finished  you should come and see them on the wall,  they look awesome!!

FIZZING AND FOAMING

We have been talking about fizzing and foaming for our new science topic. This morning we did some experiments.
Here is what we learned and enjoyed.

Today we did science we mixed acids and carbonate to see what happened. When it was my turn I did it with Amily and we mixed cider  vinegar and baking soda. We hypothesised that it would fizz and it did. It was really cool to see what happened: To dissolve and fizz up.  It was amazing! By:Jade

We added "cider vinegar" and "baking soda" into the petri dish. When Amily shook the petri dish the "cider vinegar" and the "baking soda" dissolved and fizzed. The next one we did Daisy and Tosh got chosen to mix something together . They put in "white vinegar" and "baking powder". By:Raina

Zing and zizz is what we did to day for science. We added acids with carbonates. My fave part was when we added baking soda and vinegar together. We hypothesised that it would fizz. by Aria.

ZING AND ZIZZ
What we did: What we did was mixed some carbonates with acids.
It seemed the the carbonates dissolved into the acids.
Apparently one of the experiments that Mrs Penberthy tried exploded,
i'm looking forward  to doing that today. There was an egg shell
one and when we put the egg shell in it, it was at the bottom but
after morning tea it was at the top. A lot seems to happen at morning
tea.BY ISAAC.

Zizz and zing was yesterday and it was so fun.  Me and Natalie mixed orange juice with citric acid, it just dissolved. Mrs P made lemon juice with out the sugar it looked good. I wanted TO DRINK lemon JUICE BUT I wasn't allowed.from Carlos

Yesterday we had did some fizzing and foaming. The first creation was putting cider vinegar with baking soda. It fizzed like a popping soda! The reason why I think that it was fizzing was because it says soda and soda is a very popping thing, that's why they call it baking soda. The next creation was with baking powder or salt with vinegar.

Yesterday we did some topic based on Fizzing and foaming.
And the top 2 interesting ones were the egg and vinegar and my second favourite one was the blue and white chalk mixed with water - that turned out that the water went blue. By Tosh

What we did: we mixed acids with carbonates. Lots of them fizzed. Ingredients:vinegar, water, baking soda and lemons. When we were writing we saw the teacher and Nathan do an experiment it foamed up.By Mitchell

Proverbs and Idioms (not idiots!!)

In room 13, we have been discussing proverbs and idioms (also called cliches) during language time. We got into bus-stop groups and shared our ideas. We had some very interesting ideas, but finally figured out their real meanings.
Here are some that we talked about. Discuss them at home with your family and see what they think they mean. I would be interested in your parents' interpretations. Can you think of any more?

PROVERBS
all that glitters is not gold
look before you leap
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
beauty is only skin deep
it's no use crying over spilt milk
when the cat's away the mice will play
forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest
don't count your chickens before they hatch
the language of truth is simple
many hands make light work
the early bird catches the worm
look before you leap
you can't judge a book by its cover
great minds think alike

IDIOMS
your eyes are bigger than your stomach
she has turned over a new leaf
I can see right through you
I bit off more than I could chew
he screamed his head off
I nearly jumped out of my skin
it's raining cats and dogs
I was beside myself
you let the cat out of the bag
sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me
